What Do Successful Entrepreneurs Have in Common?

As an entrepreneur you have a vision of your future. Not just in terms of business but of the kind of life that you want to lead. The people who succeed in turning that vision into a reality come from all walks of life. But they have one thing in common. A growth mindset.

What is a Growth Mindset?

We often believe that successful entrepreneurs were born ready to succeed. But the essence of a growth mindset is that intelligence and talent are not fixed traits. You can increase your brain’s ability to learn and problem solve. It is this growth mindset that paves the way for success and the good news is that it’s something you can develop with practice.

4 Signs You Have a Growth Mindset

1. You’re Open to Making Mistakes

We all make mistakes. It’s how we choose to react to them that determines whether they cause us to fail or not. The life of an entrepreneur is never plain sailing, but viewing challenges and setbacks as learning opportunities, rather than problems, will improve your resilience and strengthen your plans.

You likely already have a business plan or roadmap for the development of your project. But if things go wrong, being open to straying from your plan a little can lead to new and unexpected opportunities, even if not quite in the way you expected!

2. You Find Strength in Connections

It’s your plan, your dream, your hard work.  But, whether it’s your friends and family, a mentor or fellow entrepreneurs, your connections are a valuable source of moral support on tough days, inspiration, advice and constructive criticism, that helps your plans develop and grow. After all, no man or woman is an island.

3. You’re Willing to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

A growth mindset involves being open to the potential of new opportunities, even when they’re unfamiliar or ‘not in the plan’. By being open to new experiences, you might surprise yourself by discovering new strengths and skills or making new connections that could help make your plans a success.

4. You Celebrate Success

Your ultimate goal gives you your sense of purpose; it keeps you focused and drives every decision and action. But it’s important not to lose sight of the small victories that help you move closer to that ultimate goal every day. Celebrating the smaller milestones gives your project momentum and builds your confidence in your plans and abilities. There will be days when it all seem impossible. But by reflecting on how far you’ve come you’ll have the strength to keep going.
